Elettra Fellows 2019
Fulvio Parmigiani
Prof. Fulvio Parmigianiis a distinguished experimental Physicist who has given fundamental contributions to the understanding of strongly electroncorrelated materials, magnetism and non-equilibrium phenomena of matter and to the development of synchrotron radiation and free-electron laser (FEL) based analytical techniques. Starting in 1998 he established and brought to success the BACH Beamline at Elettra, which became a world-leading experimental facility for the study of magnetic materials, strongly correlated materials and High Tc superconductors. In 2003 he began his long-standing contribution to the FERMI project. He was the main author and coordinator of the scientific case for the new facility. After its construction, he was appointed as Head of Scientific Programs of FERMI, a role that he maintained through 2015. Along with FERMI, Professor Parmigianiwas responsible for the creation of an entirely new laboratory for non-equilibrium and time-resolved studies using table-top laser sources (T-ReX), which is now operated as a user facility in the FERMI experimental hall. At T-ReXexperiments on time-resolved optical spectroscopy and time-resolved angle-resolved photoemission experiments on solids became possible in the sub-picosecond time domain, complementing what FERMI can do for our users. Over the last 21 years Prof. Parmigianihas provided our institution with invaluable advice on scientific developments and strategies. Greatly contributing to the success of our organization.
