Initiatives

The support of qualified lecturers in the areas of social sciences and humanities, law, psychology, and science, aims to promote broad cultural reflection and spread gender culture through the involvement of all colleagues.
Following the initiatives per year.

2025

As part of the actions foreseen in the Gender Equality Plan 2025-2027, this initiative aims to create moments for dialogue and reflection to help foster a working environment where everyone can feel recognized, welcomed, and empowered to fully express their professional skills.
The meetings, led by Dr. Laura Pomicino, will provide practical tools and insights into everyday aspects of professional life, such as communication, emotional regulation, and the quality of interpersonal relationships.

This session explores the concept of listening—both self- and other-directed—to better understand how to promote more functional dynamics that can enhance the overall quality of working life for individuals and their teams.   Drawing on new findings in brain science, it is discussed how and why certain reactions—our own and others’—occur, and share strategies for self-regulation aimed at promoting a healthier and more constructive relational climate.
  • “That’s not true, that’s not what I meant.” Communication Misunderstandings and Relational Consequences

  • “Better Together? Yes, but Me First."
This session focuses on identifying the implicit and often unconscious mechanisms that can alter our communication, conveying unintended messages that may undermine the relationships within which they take place.   In this final session, we reflect on certain dynamics that often emerge in professional contexts, where the drive to assert oneself can at times be confused with competing or prevailing over others. We aim to acknowledge each participant’s emotional experience, recognizing that while emotions themselves are not a matter of choice, the way we respond to them—our behavioural management—is always within our control.

 2023

Starting April 2023 a mandatory training course began for all Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste employees. The course is part of the activities under the Gender Equality Plan (GEP) adopted by the Company and includes a transdisciplinary approach aimed at promoting gender equality and acquiring adequate knowledge of the issues listed below. The training, delivered online, was divided into 3 modules of 4 hours each

  • Module 1. Work, rights, discrimination
Led by Prof. lawyer Roberta Nunin

Basic training on the sources of anti-discrimination law, not only with regard to the Italian legal system, but also looking at European Union law. The concepts of direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, moral harassment and sexual harassment are depth explored, and the tools for combating these phenomena are analyzed. In addition, a specific focus is devoted to the theme of work-life balance, "gender" collective bargaining and positive actions, as useful tools to counter stereotypes, still widespread, and to achieve full equality in the workplace, including in terms of pay.

  • Module 2. Theories and languages of gender
Led by Prof. Sergia Adamo

Different notions of gender with the different perspectives they refer to and their specific traditions of thought. The aim is to clarify the assumptions and practical consequences of a variety of positions that from time to time it is appropriate to be able to recognize and evaluate in order to deal with the many stereotypes that gender issues bring into play. In the end issues related to language and gender with a small workshop of practical exercises are discussed.

  • Module 3. Gender and scientific culture
Led by Prof. Anna Gregorio

The absence of women in science has historically been a problem that the present is gradually taking note of in order to radically change the situation. What stories and figures from the past do we need to recover in the name of the role they played in scientific development? What is being done today to ensure that this does not happen again? What issues need to be put at the center of research so that gender and science no longer remain two mutually exclusive domains? The module tries to answer these questions through the presentation of a variety of current initiatives and projects.

2022

The Gender Equality Team at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste distributed a survey questionnaire to all employees, aimed at identifying the subject of the survey in terms of the presence/absence of the phenomenon. This questionnaire created an initial statistical database to better guide any future GEP interventions.
