Spatially resolved spectroscopic characterizzation of cluster assembled nanocomposite films

Abstract
Supersonic cluster beam deposition is a viable method for the synthesis of metal/carbon nanocomposites films. By assembling carbon and metallic clusters seeded in a supersonic beam, we have grown films consisting of metal nanoparticles embedded in a nanostructured carbon matrix. We have investigated the structure of the films for different metals, such as 3d transition metals (Ti, Ni) and noble metals (Au, Pd, Pt) with TEM and spatially resolved UPS measurements. Moreover we have studied the film conductivity modified by highly focused VUV photon beam exposure with in situ electrical measurements and the stability of the induced conductivity under gas exposure.
