Abstract
Opened to the users in September 2006, the life sciences branch of SISSI beamline is devoted to exploiting InfraRed MicroSpectroscopy (IRMS) for life sciences. The number of submitted proposals increased quite fast over the first years of operation, now steady at around 25. This trend reflects an increasing interest of the bio-community towards Synchrotron Radiation IRMS biomedical applications. In this talk, the beamline status and performances will be presented and a brief overview of the capabilities and possible applications of IR imaging technique (both with SR and conventional source) will be given. Most of the talk will be focused on the scientific outcome of the branch, emphasizing the results of in-house research. The upgrade possibilities of the beamline will also be considered in the last part of the talk.
