Laser expert for the European project CENILS

Ref. E/12/10

Elettra is an international multidisciplinary laboratory operated by Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A. (ST) as a user facility, featuring a 2.4 GeV, third-generation synchrotron light source and a variety of support laboratories. A fourth-generation free-electron laser - FERMI@Elettra - is currently under commissioning.
The complexity of the technologies involved in the set up and operation of the said light sources, and the relevant equipment, allow Sincrotrone Trieste to design, and/or develop, and/or implement technologies at the forefront of the current scientific and technical knowledge. In this context, table-top lasers have a fundamental role.
Elettra is lead partner of the project CENILS (Central European Network for the development of Innovative Light Sources), recently funded in the framework of the Central Europe Program (http://www.central2013.eu/). The project activities will start in September 2012 and will end in December 2014. Total project’s budget is about 1 million euro. One of project aims is to carry out a seeding experiment on the FERMI@Elettra FEL. The seeding experiment will rely on the development of a new femtosecond laser system.

Job Description: The selected candidate will take care of the development and maintenance of the laser system that will be used to carry out the seeding experiment foreseen in the framework of CENILS activities. He/she will prepare experiments (laser installation, design of the seed transport line, users training), participate to their execution and analyse the collected data.

Qualifications:The candidate must holda PhD in physics, engineering, or related topics. At least five years of experience in the field of development and operation of ultra-fast table-top laser are required. Very good interpersonal and communication skills are requested, together with a demonstrated ability to promote and perform independent work in a group-oriented research environment are expected.
